Most Famous Person That You Saw in Public? Where was it?
Most Famous Person That You Saw in Public? Where was it? I was listening to a local radio channel today and they where talking about the above topic. So the question is: Who is the most famous person that you ran into in public? Where was it? |

I was once in Ft Wayne, IN and was checking out of the Marriott. At the front desk standing next to me was James Taylor (singer). He was faxing something. He did say hi.

Okay this is an exercise in name dropping eh? LOL I went to high school with Adam Sandler. He was a year ahead of me but very popular and everyone knew him. I went to college with Melissa Rivers and saw Joan Rivers at a football game. My one trip to LA back in 1990 I was in LAX and practically walked into Alec Baldwin who was coming into the airport. I kind of followed him up to the the airport shop and sure enough he was on my flight from LA to Chicago albeit in first class. Independently Romantic Sounds Better Than Lonely

Some sightings, some meetings: Al Jolson at a Dairy Queen in Wisconsin, Marcel Marceau at Gatwick … hmmm … who else .. oh yeah, Bobby Hull in an elevator and later that same year in a car on the TransCanada west of Winnipeg. And I won't mention that Rush played our high school several times when they were starting out.

When I was younger I lived in Los Angeles and worked in and around Hollywood, including having a small involvement in films being made. So, there have been quite a few well known people I've met working and by coincidence. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I was on a business lunch in St Louis a couple years ago and John O'Hurley (Peterman from Seinfeld ) was having a meeting in the same restaurant. He was in a private room with about 6 people.

Before Harry Potter was made into movies, I saw Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) at Heathrow airport - must have been nearly 20 years ago.

Pretty cool. Is he a pretty big person in real life? That might be different these days with his new fan-base.

I sat directly in front of Lauren Bacall at a play in Manhattan, NY. The name of the play was 'the Invention of Love' and was actually pretty damn cool ... about a lesser known contemporary of Oscar Wilde, with the plot being about this writers gay fascinations he never lives out ... and how love is invented from the stories we tell. Anyway me and my date had seated and then I turn around just to get a gander and bam there is Mrs. Bacall ... those eyes. Now mind ... I've never watched one of her movies, but those eyes .. very few have those kind of eyes ... we lock gaze for a several seconds and she knows she is recognized and seemed to be sizing me up for a threat or if I'm gonna goof and make a scene. I nod and go back to conversing with my date, who was like "wow". For some reason though that was one woman she didn't feel threatened by ... Ms. Bacall must have been mid 70s since it was around 2000. I once shared a plane ride with a famous female singer of Tibet, Yungchen Lhamo, who was a hottie. A Flight from Morrocco to NY and we watched that Pocahontas movie with Colin what's his face. She was originally sitting elsewhere but moved up to the row I was in to get away from the 'oohs and aahs' of 'fans' idk her english broken ... flying back from the Fez Music Festival ... we chatted quite a bit about my career at the time and her take on the festival. She was super nervous during take off and landing going into prayers with beads during take off and landing ... appeared very into the movie ... she sent me emails about for a while but only news blasts about her career and performances ... nothing personal ..after a bit I just clicked unsubscribed ...obviously she was just being polite. I've met numerous punk rock players from the 2nd to 3rd wave eras but no name dropping here ... let's see ... might as well put these two out there .. fame ehh as much infamy. I've met Timothy Leary, who gazed at me with hunger that had nothing to do with sex or passion. I've also met and briefly exchanged thank yous and all with Genesis P-Orridge, one of the founders of industrial music from england in the mid 70s. Oh and Janeanne Garafalo ... here and a bunch of now sell out shows comics ... we'd gone to see a comedy show on Halloween, they all got up and did great sets ... Patton Oswalt was dressed Charlie Manson. Very fun night - met and hung a bit with Andy Dick at a film festival .. he lost desire to continue after I didn't have weed to share - he was hanging with teenagers as my group drove off. Saw Ike Turner, who had just moved to Oceanside in the 90s, driving in his rolls on highway 78...drove up next to him and tried to make a mockery of him by throwing punched in the air and yelling 'way to go a-hole smack that bitch up' ... but he thought I was just cheering him on ... and wagged his fingers like playing piano in front of what must have been a manager who was shocked that Ike took his hands of the wheel to do that. That was weird. Probably a few others ... but they don't come to mind as I probably didn't care. Fame is more often described as curse than anything if you actually talk to those cursed with it ... but there are worse fates for sure. I think being famous and broke would suck ass.

The last comment reminded me about on off my plane trips. I believe it was a West coast take off heading back towards home. This flight was heading to Chicago were I would make my connection. On this flight I was seated next to Mario Andretti, we talked and he was a very interesting person. We did speak about car racing. As I recall , we also spoke about wine. A down to earth person.
